WRITING
I started writing plays at age 7. My first pieces were inspired by Saved by the Bell and Harry Potter, which I also directed and performed in. By the age of 13, however, I was writing and performing monologues that explored topics like domestic violence and bereavement after losing a brother in the First World War.
During my teenage years, my work became increasingly philosophical as I started exploring the bigger questions: Who are we? Why are we here? Where did we come from? And where are we going?
At age 17, I won the Dutch National Youth Theatre Contest’s First Prize with a piece I wrote, directed and performed. When I turned 18, I moved to London, where I developed my writing skills while training as an actor-creator at Fourth Monkey Actor Training Company. There, we devised original theatre productions through a process of improvisation and collaborative writing.
When I moved to New York City, I started freelance writing for Natural Awakenings magazine and Elephant Journal. I also wrote theatrical pieces for my nonprofit theatre company, the Conscious Performers Collective, and started creating content by writing, speaking and producing inspirational videos.
I currently work at streaming network Gaia, where I write, produce and narrate original content. I also write and am an on-screen talent for Gaia’s social media. My greatest literary love currently is screenwriting.
BECOMING THE ONE
My debut narrative feature screenplay, Becoming the One, has won multiple accolades, including at the Austin Film Festival, Scriptapalooza, Launch Pad Feature Competition and Screencraft Feature Competition.
Becoming the One is a powerful and engaging, at-times-hilarious, at-times-profound, coming-of-age romantic comedy-drama with magical realist elements. Set in London and the Indian Himalayas, it explores the ancient push and pull between our deepest fears and our greatest desires. It’s a love story. It’s about the love between two people. It’s about the love that most of us withhold from ourselves. It’s about the ecstasy and heartbreak of being human, of being alive, and the confusing relationship between ourselves, others, and the cosmos.
Becoming the One has a fresh and fiercely independent (female minority) voice and perspective that celebrates the rich, diverse tapestry of life, while dipping its toes into nondual Eastern philosophy, all the while maintaining grit, relatability, humour and a fearless delight in poking fun at oneself and every theory that tries to give meaning to the crazy, ineffable, equally transcendental-and-painstakingly-mundane rollercoaster ride of being human.
